These high-altitude precipitation gauges use the dial-type weighing scale to determine the amount of precipitation. The gauge is charged with a solution of calcium chloride to prevent freezing.  Oil is added to the can to minimize evaporation loss from the gauge.  The dial of the scale is calibrated in inches of precipitation.  Field crews read gauges in July for annual measurements and October for interim measurements.<\/p><p style='margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; padding-bottom:1em; font-family:&quot;Segoe UI&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size:13.3333px;'><\/p><p style='margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; padding-bottom:1em; font-family:&quot;Segoe UI&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size:13.3333px;'>Active sites can be reviewed by filtering the &quot;Reporting_End&quot; field to show only Null records.
