 "serviceDescription": "This feature class is updated every business day using Python scripts and the Precipitation database.  Please disregard the \"Date Updated\" field as it does not keep in sync with DWR's internal enterprise geodatabase updates.\n\nThe Nevada Division of Water Resources' precipitation gauge sites were selected based on a USGS/Soil Conservation Service recharge program conducted in the 1960's. These high-altitude precipitation gauges use the dial-type weighing scale to determine the amount of precipitation. The gauge is charged with a solution of calcium chloride to prevent freezing. Oil is added to the can to minimize evaporation loss from the gauge. The dial of the scale is calibrated in inches of precipitation. Field crews read gauges in July for annual measurements and October for interim measurements.\n\nActive sites can be reviewed by filtering the \"Reporting_End\" field to show only Null records. \nIf a site has a date in the \"Reporting_End\" field, it is no longer in use. \nThe Site_ID field is used to relate site locations to measures. \nPrecip_Catch measure data is weighed and reported in inches.  \nSouthern NV Branch Office site measures are collected annually.\nElko Branch Office site measures are collected in July and October.",
