Description:

Water Rights mapping at NDWR started in August 2007. Water rights points of diversion (POD) were mapped that contained one of the following: coordinate location, bearing/distance based on monument tie, application map that could be georeferenced, parcel number or location description that could be identified on a topo map. The Hydrology Section of NDWR continues to map water right applications with the following statuses:

APP - application

PER - permit

RFA – ready for action

RFP – ready for action protested

RES – reserved

CER - certificate

RVP – revocable permit

VST – vested right

DEC - decreed

RLP – relinquished portion

While this GIS layer is updated daily, some older water rights including Vested Water Rights may not be mapped due to lack of sufficient location information. Truckee Carson Irrigation District (TCID) water rights are mapped separately and may not be included in this GIS layer.

The Water Rights Section of NDWR is responsible for reviewing and approving water rights applications, for new appropriations and for changes to existing water rights, as well as evaluating and responding to protests of applications, approving subdivision dedications for water quantity, evaluating domestic well credits and relinquishments, issuing certificates for permitted water rights, conducting field investigations, and processing requests for extensions of time for filing proofs of completion and proofs of beneficial use.

The POD feature class is related to the POD_Table and Websoft_POD_Table for applications numbers using the site_name field. The application number can then be used to join with the Permit database for attribution pertaining to the water right.
