The dataset is used to track approved water right retirements. Retirements indicate water that is no longer delivered from the Truckee River and remains within the water system. The goal of water right retirements is to reduce water use throughout the Newlands Project area. Retirement refers to the AB 380 program, which was a program administered by the Carson Water Subconservancy District to purchase water rights from willing sellers and have those rights retired and abandoned.
